Photo of the Week

SIGNS OF SPRING

Surprisingly enough, I did find this one sign that spring is on its way. One little clump of crocus is enough to give me some hope that winter is on its way out, although not soon, and obviously not willingly.
Below are photos of my crepe myrtles which give me pleasure throughout the seasons. I first fell in love with the silky smooth trunks after they shed their bark for the winter. The flowers in spring and the fabulous fall colors of the leaves were a big bonus for me.

Photo a Week

When the flowers were delivered I was in complete confusion as to who could have sent them. My dearly beloved has never before sent me flowers. He has bought them at the grocery store or at a local shop, but never ordered them to be delivered. So this was a very special bouquet for me.
In return I bought him chocolates (I had asked him not to get candy for me) and golf balls. Then we had a lovely steak dinner (but no candlelight...sigh) and I had made his favorite banana cream pie for dessert. Who said romance is for the young?

Photo a Week Feb. 9, 2009

At last! Something colorful in my area during these bleak winter days. Roy came in to tell me to get my camera and come out to see this lovely rainbow first thing yesterday morning. We had had a brief shower earlier and the rainbow came out just about the time he went out to bring in the morning paper. We usually see rainbows later in the day in a different part of the sky so I was happy to get this particular shot.

Tagged by Shashi

Good friend Shashi in the UK has tagged me and like Linda said, I almost forgot! But here, from the sixth folder in my picture file is the sixth photo, which was taken last summer in the backyard. These are flowers that were planted I presume by the woman who lived here before me. They're sweet little things and were hidden from view for several years by a thicket of vines which had engulfed a large portion of the property. Thank goodness, through the years my husband has cleared most of it away and I can enjoy some lovely things that clung to life in spite of the vines.
Now I'm supposed to tag others, I forget how many, but I choose, Vee, Kerry, Sue(when you feel better), and Serena, but that's only "if you've a mind to", as my grandmother would have said!

Photo a Week Feb. 2, 2009

Hi, everyone! Would you believe I almost forgot to post a photo for today...and I've been looking forward to continuing with this project....sigh.
Soooo, I'm cheating a bit here, and pulling out a photo of a doll I made some time ago, one of my first originals. Not that I made that many originals. I enjoyed my doll work for many years, but had to let it go to save my aging back. Now I'm making an effort to redefine myself,so I do a bit of painting and drawing, and sometimes knitting, to keep my hand in.
