Fledging Day!

Sorry the photo is skewed, but I took it hurriedly. Bless him I think I frightened him into flying before he had made up his mind. As soon as I clicked the shutter (without turning off the flash), he flew into the maple tree across the yard in the direction that he's looking in this picture. He was the last one to go. We only got to see three of them, but there were five eggs in the nest, so we must have missed the first two. That's what we get for sleeping late this morning. But now we can close up the house and get our new deck started!!

Mary, once the babies fly out do they never go back in again>..?

No, Vee, they fly into the trees and Mom and Pop locate them and continue to feed them for several days. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to get a glimpse of them for a little while, but they're soon gone further into the woods are lost to me. Sad, but it's good to know that they all fledged safely and are on their own now!

How nice you were able to witness the process and get such a great photo! Maybe the babies will return to make their own nests next year, after your new desk, of course!

Great picture. I'm playing catch up and looking at a lot of blogs that I haven't been on lately. Hopefully things have slowed down a bit for me since we moved to Texas.
Hugs,
